Passacaglia

Passacaglia is well known as one of Britain's most innovative and entertaining chamber music ensembles, blending the sweet, articulate sound of recorders and baroque flute with the ravishing sonorities of violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord.

Established in 1992, the ensemble has evolved a strong collaborative bond over many performances, broadcasts and recordings across all parts of the UK, Europe and the US. Recitalists at both the Wigmore Hall and South Bank, they have broadcast many times for BBC Radio 3 (including the Early Music Show and In Tune) and recorded several CDs for Linn Records, Naxos and most recently, the artist-led label BCR.

Early in their career, the members of Passacaglia were recipients of many awards and tours across the UK and Europe for the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Tunnell Trust, the Early Music Network and the British Council. This wealth of ensemble experience has distilled over many subsequent performances to produce a strong sense of shared spirit and communication, between both the players themselves and with the audience. At the heart of every Passacaglia performance is the desire to convey an enjoyment and understanding of the music to every listener, underlined by friendly and informal introductions to the music in every concert.

The group tailors each programme to the demands of the audience, easily catering for the general music enthusiast as well as more specialist tastes. Have a look at our programmes page for some of our most popular titles.
