Dan Laurin - recorder
Dan Laurin was born in Jönköping, Sweden in 1960 and studied at the Conservatories of Odense and Copenhagen from 1976-82. Since 1980 he has had an active career as an international concert artist, performing and recording with such distinguished players as the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, Bach Collegium Japan, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and The Lithuanian Chamber Orchesta, with regular tours to Japan, the United States, Israel and across Europe. His work as a performing musician is complemented by an active teaching schedule at some of Europe’s foremost Conservatories including professorships at The Carl Nielsen Academy of Music, Odense; The Conservatory of Music in Gothenburg, Sweden and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen. More recently he has been appointed guest professor at the National University for Fine Arts and Music, Tokyo. He researches and lectures on many areas of interpretation, music aesthetics, recorder acoustics, sound techniques, and performance issues.

As well as an impressive list of recording credits on the BIS label for early music (including his recent 9-disc recording of the Complete Der Fluyten Lusthof by Van Eyck), Dan is actively involved with the performance and commissioning of new music. His 1994 album The Swedish Recorder earned him a prize from the Swedish Association of Composers. This, along with three other albums (The Japanese Recorder, Vivaldi Recorder Concertos and Telemann/Bach (Fantasias/Solo works)) resulted in a Grammy award. Recent commissions include recorder concertos by Daniel Börtz and Henrik Strindberg.

Julia Gooding - soprano
The soprano Julia Gooding is particularly renowned for her interpretation of Baroque music. She enjoys a career worldwide combining both concert and staged performances with recordings.

Julia has collaborated with many specialist orchestras and conductors including Trevor Pinnock and the English Concert, Nicholas McGegan and Philharmonia Baroque, Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre, Ivor Bolton and St James Baroque, Marcus Creed and Freiburg Baroque, Philippe Herreweghe and Collegium Vocale and Gustav Leonhardt and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Julia’s operatic work has included the role of Salome in Stradella's San Giovanni Battista at the Innsbruck Festival, Romilda in Handel's Xerxes for the Opernhaus Halle, Minerve, Amore and Giunone in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria with Philippe Pierlot in a joint production with La Monnaie and the Kunsten Festival des Arts in Amsterdam, and Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in the Cervantes Festival, Mexico.

Included in Julia's discography of more than twenty recordings are Handel's Teseo in which she sang the role of Agilea with Les Musiciens du Louvre/Minkowski for Erato, Purcell's Odes for Queen Mary with The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment/Leonhardt for Virgin Classics, Euridice in Monteverdi's Orfeo and Vivaldi's Dixit Dominus with the New London Consort/Pickett for L'Oiseau-Lyre, and Linley and Boyce cantatas with the Parley of Instruments/Holman for Hyperion.

Eligio Quinteiro - theorbo &
Eligio Quinteiro studied Classical guitar with Olímpiades García and Joaquín Prats in Las Palmas and Madrid and lute with José Miguel Moreno and Eugène Ferre. In 1997 he moved to London to follow a postgraduate course in Early Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is now permanently resident in London.

Eligio is in great demand both as a soloist and as an accompanist for song recitals on the lute, theorbo and Romantic guitar. In addition, he plays regularly with most of the UK’s leading period instrument orchestras, including The King’s Consort and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, as well as collaborating with modern instrument orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and London Mozart Players.

Helen Groves - soprano
Helen Groves has appeared as a soloist in many of Europe’s major festivals, touring with the Academy of Ancient Music, New London Consort, The English Concert, the Tallis Scholars and The Gabrieli Consort. She made her Proms debut in 1996 with Ivor Bolton and the St James Players, and more recently has worked with Sir Simon Rattle and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at the Salzburg Festival. In 2001 Helen gave a recital with Passacaglia at the Wigmore Hall and appeared in the Early Music Network Showcase weekend.

Gareth Deats - 'cello
Gareth Deats obtained a first-class honours degree in music from Southampton University, where he was also awarded the Peter Evans prize for outstanding performance. He then completed a post-graduate course at the Guildhall School of Music, where he studied baroque cello with Anthony Pleeth. He has recorded for BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and on compact disc and has performed extensively throughout Europe. He has played principal cello for La Serenissima, Classical Opera Company, Cambridge Baroque Camerata, The Avison Ensemble, Charivari Agreable and The Galeazzi Ensemble.
